The Bassat Collection Exhibition at Nau Gaudí

Toolip Gallery Joins the Bassat Collection Exhibition at Nau Gaudí

On January 23rd, 2025, we had the honor of participating in the opening of the new exhibition “Col·lecció Bassat. Obres del segle XXI (III)” at the iconic Nau Gaudí in Mataró — the first architectural work by Antoni Gaudí and now the home of one of the most important collections of Catalan contemporary art.

This new exhibition, curated by the renowned Lluís Bassat, presents 46 figurative artworks by 18 contemporary artists, including Hugo Alonso, Mariana Álvarez, Francesc Artigau, Mònica Dixon, Marta Fàbregas, and Didier Lourenço, among others.

Toolip Gallery’s Contribution

At Toolip Gallery, we are proud to have contributed one of the key pieces in the exhibition — a large-format painting with bold, expressive floral forms that captivated many of the attendees. It was a special moment to stand beside this artwork with Mr. Lluís Bassat himself, as well as my brother, representing both Toolip Gallery and Àtica Barcelona.

This piece is the work of Mrs. Toolip, the founder of our gallery and an artist known for her powerful abstract compositions. Since opening our space in 2021 in the heart of Barcelona, Toolip Gallery has become a creative hub for emerging and established artists. Collaborating with the Bassat Collection is a milestone that highlights our commitment to artistic excellence and cultural dialogue.

A Living Collection

The Bassat Collection is one of the most significant archives of contemporary Catalan art from the second half of the 20th century to the present day. Lluís Bassat began his collecting journey in 1973 and has since supported and promoted hundreds of artists, often helping them gain international visibility. His passion and generosity have built a collection of over 2,000 original works, many of which are now publicly exhibited at Nau Gaudí.

This exhibition will remain open to the public until September 21st, 2025. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in contemporary art, Catalan culture, or the architectural legacy of Gaudí.

A Creative Future

Participating in this exhibition reaffirms our mission at Toolip Gallery: to connect bold artistic voices with the public and to foster cultural collaborations that leave a lasting impression. We are incredibly grateful to the Fundació Carmen & Lluís Bassat, the city of Mataró, and all the artists who made this show possible.

We invite you to visit Nau Gaudí and experience this remarkable journey through contemporary art — and to continue following our work at Toolip Gallery as we build new bridges between artists, collectors, and institutions.
